¶ Introduction
The Basic Type Rating is intended to ensure new F/A-18C pilots are familiar with all the necessary navigation, situational awareness, and armament systems in the F/A-18C that are commonly used in CVW-1/CSG-8 operations. Candidates are encouraged to look through this page for expected requirements and to seek training, or clarification on systems to be qualified on. The Eagle Dynamics user manual can be used as the primary reference for most, if not all, aircraft systems to be tested on this qualification.
¶ Qualification Method
This qualification is a self-administered, single-player mission, with an automated scoring system. Candidates will follow all instructions in the mission file’s included briefing, and receive a final score/rating. Candidates should provide a tacview[1] and track file[2] along with a screenshot of their score card for proctors to review. Candidates should contact their respective squadron leadership for instructions on where to provide/record these results. Proctors can clarify instructions on the qualifying tasks, but may not provide direct or directive assistance to a candidate during the qualification in order to accomplish a qualifying task/item.

Candidates will begin by occupying the Sortie 1 slot and accomplish the objectives below. After successfully accomplishing all objectives in Sortie 1, candidates will occupy the Sortie 2 slot and accomplish the Sortie 2 objectives.

- Fly towards WPYPT7 and utilize GMT radar to acquire the moving vehicles traveling NW. pg 193-194
- Destroy the lead vehicle with a GBU-12 (PRF 1688). pg 321
- Fly towards WYPT7 and find the Molniya Corvette in the vicinity using SEA radar. pg 195
- Attack this ship with an AGM-65F. pg 353-360
- Fly towards WYPT8 and find the ship traveling South-East using SEA radar.
- Program the following options for the AGM-84D Harpoon in the
STORESpage.MODE FLT TERM R/BL LOW SKIM - Launch the AGM-84D at the ship while flying at 500 ft AGL and 400 KIAS. pg 376
- Fly towards WYPT8 and locate the drone aircraft using A/A radar in any mode. Engage the drone aircraft with AIM-9X in a HOBS (high off-boresight) attack. pg 261
- Open the Radio Menu and use the F10 option to generate your scorecard. Take a screenshot of the scorecard for submission to squadron leadership.
- Exit the mission file.
